Importance of the MOT test - Why Does Your Vehicle Need One?
If you own a car or any other vehicle, you’ll know that the vehicle is required to go through an MOT test every year. This applies to cars, motorcycles, goods vehicles and many more vehicle types. The MOT test, also known as the Ministry of Transport test, ensures that vehicles are safe to drive and are road worthy.
The MOT test was first introduced in the 1960s and has been expanded many times over the years that it has been in place. For example, one of the first items that were brought into place for MOT testing back in the sixties was a tyre check. Nowadays, the test is much more complex and a range of different elements of the vehicle are checked. The test includes checks on the brakes, suspension, lights, bodywork and much more. It is designed to ensure that your car is roadworthy and safe to drive, to prevent any accidents or breakdowns.
Over 20,000 local car garages throughout Great Britain are authorised to perform and validate MOT tests, with Freeway being one of them! You must ensure that your local garage is authorised by the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) to make sure that your MOT is valid and is being carried out by an authorised garage.
If you are unsure as to whether your vehicle or another vehicle is due an MOT test, you can find out by entering your vehicle registration on the Government website. Your vehicle must be tested every year once it has turned 3 years old. If you are found to be driving a vehicle that does not have a valid MOT then you can potentially be fined up to £1000, so we would always advise customers to keep a note of when their next MOT is due.
