Car Servicing in 2021 - Is It Still Important?
With lockdown restrictions slowly easing and being lifted throughout the UK, travel will become much more regular for everyone, meaning more cars will be on the road. Like most people in the country, you may not have used your car for many months and may be wondering whether regular maintenance of your vehicle is still important. We say YES!
Our Recommendation
A car service is not mandatory or required by the DVLA like an MOT test is, but we would still highly recommend one. At Freeway we would recommend that your car is serviced every 12 months or every 12,000 miles, whichever one comes first.
There are usually two different types of car servicing, basic service and a full service, depending on your budget. We would always recommend a full service as this is the most comprehensive option but we understand not everyone has the budget for a full service each and every time. A basic service usually consists of an oil change, oil filter replacement and pressure checks. You can find out more about the different service options here.
Safety Precautions
The main reason why a service should be carried out on anything is for safety reasons. Similar to the MOT test (but not mandatory) you will be provided with a report with advisories if there are certain elements of your car that need reviewing or replacing. Most of these issues should be picked up within your annual MOT test but a service tends to be more thorough as not only does it bring up safety-critical elements, it also looks at your vehicle’s overall health. A service will also include replacing certain parts of the car such as filters and spark plugs.
Maintaining Value
Now safety has been covered, you will want to consider the value of your vehicle too, especially if the car is new as the value will generally depreciate quite quickly. Although you may not be looking to sell your car in the near future it is more than likely that you will at some point, so it’s important to look at this.
By keeping a clean vehicle history for MOT tests and servicing it provides a layer of security for those who are interested in buying your vehicle, whether that be someone privately or through a dealer. It shows that you have consistently looked after your vehicle whilst it has been in your ownership, which helps with final costs. Looking after your car is a worthy investment!
Get Your Service Booked
If you are in any doubt about getting your car serviced just remember it is always better to keep on top of the maintenance than to pay out a lot of money if things went missed and then went wrong. Servicing protects the safety and integrity of your car for years to come and if properly maintained as recommended, it’s unlikely you’ll face many issues.
At Freeway our fully comprehensive vehicle servicing starts from just £140 and usually takes around 2 hours to complete to a high standard. If you are interested in booking a car service in Tunbridge Wells, please get in touch with our team today!
