Preparing for the MOT Test
The lead-up to your MOT test can be a nerve-racking experience as you are hoping for the best results for your car. Preparing for your MOT can make your anxiety a lot better, a few checks can go a long way when is comes to the costs to your vehicle. Here are some Pre-MOT checks you can carry out at home to increase the possibility of passing your MOT:
- Handbrake - You can rest your foot on the brake and lift your handbrake on and off, if the vehicle travels too far then the cable connected may start to stretch or wear. If your handbrake doesn't stop the car from moving when lifted, it is recommended to get this looked at before your MOT
- Seats - Your seats and headrests should be in the correct upright position and adjusted to a comfortable position for you. Your headrests should be in line with the tops of your ears or in line with your eyes, if the seat or headrests are broken or do not move, this can cause the car to fail.
- Seatbelts - Your seatbelts should click into the holder effortlessly, and return to the base position when not in use. If your seatbelt does not click into the holder then this will cause your MOT to fail.
- Mirrors - Your wind and rear-view mirrors should be adjusted to a position that is easy for you to see out of and securely in place. If your mirrors do not stay in place or are damaged, the car will fail.
- Steering wheel - Your steering wheel should move with ease when you are turning it, if it feels heavy or pulls to one side then this can fail the MOT.
- Windscreen - Your windscreen should be free from chips and scratches, if any of the glass is damaged, you will need to get this checked before your MOT.
Horn - If your horn is not projecting any sound then this will fail the MOT, you will need to get this checked ASAP.
