Reading Tyre Sidewall Labelling
Sidewall labelling is important to help you understand certain features of your tyres. These are something to look out for when it’s time to buy new tyres for your vehicle. Manufacturers provide a score of A - G for both fuel efficiency and stopping distance when wet for their tyres. A is the highest with G being the lowest.
You will also notice noise level ratings which will tell you the decibel level of your tyres when on the road. If you require label information then you can receive this when looking for a new set of tyres. Reading Tyre Sidewall Markings
Markings are highly important in finding out diagnostic and specific information about the tyres themselves. You will notice that the name of the tyre is noted on the tyre sidewall as well as an indicator which will look like: “205/55/16 19V.” For this example, this provides the following information for our tyre:
- 205 - 205mm the section width of the tyre.
- 55 - 55% aspect ratio of the tyre as the height of the tyre as a percentage of the section width.
- 16 - Rim diameter which is 16 inches.
- 91 - The load index relating to the maximum load the tyre can carry.
- V - The speed symbol which indicates the speed of use.
